To launch piPop at login, open System Preferences from the Apple Menu and select Login. Click the Login Items tab and click the Add Item button. Find piPop, wherever its saved and click Open. Leave the check the box unchecked or piPop will be hidden upon launch. piPop will now open when you login.
piPop is designed to be simple to use and customize. Launch piPop by double clicking its icon in the finder. To access piPops menus, simply mouse to the left edge of the screen. Now you can also access piPop by clicking and holding a folder in the Finder or by holding down the control and option keys while clicking in the Finder to access the contents of a folder (OSX only) . You can modify the activation behavior of piPop through the preference window.
piPop now features Tear off Menus. To tear off (or float) a menu. Simply Apple-click the menu and move it to where youd like it to reside. You can also Apple-click-drag a floating menu to move it to a new location.
To close a floating menu Shift-Apple-Click it and it will disappear. To resize a floating menu, hover the mouse at the right or bottom edge of the menu until the cursor changes to a resize cursor, then click and drag to resize the menu to the size you like. If you size a menu shorter than the original, it will scroll with the mouse position.
Floating menus can also be created and closed via the contextual menus.
To access the preferences simply control-click the top level of piPops menu and select preferences. From here you can modify the way piPop behaves. Setting a modifier key is recommended for screen-side activation. You will find settings for the display of menus, activation settings, and Show Info settings. Each setting has built in tips that appear at the bottom of the preference window when the mouse is placed over them.
To open a file or folder from piPop, simply click on it in the piPop menu.
Drag and Drop
Now you can drag a file or folder to a floating piPop menu or to the edge of the screen to activate piPop. Drop the item in a folder or on an application icon. piPop also supports dragging files and folders from piPop to another application or to the finder.
The top level menu can be fully customized by option clicking in it and selecting Organize Root Menu. From there you can reorder the items, add separators and headings, and add by drag and drop, remove and rename items.
To add a folder to piPop simply control-click the folder in piPop and select Add to root menu. The next time you use piPop, the folder will be available. To remove an item from the piPop root menu, simply control click that item in piPop and select Remove item. You can also add and remove items via the Organize Root Menu option in the contextual menu when you control-click the piPop root menu.
To view info about files as you browse, press control-I to toggle between show info mode, info with preview mode, and no info mode.
piPop is a utility for MacOS and Mac OSX designed to make navigating to files, folders and applications fast and easy. piPop is created by Jim McKay of piDog Software and is distributed as shareware. Any distribution of this software is prohibited except in the original format available from http://www.pidog.com. The author gives permission for inclusion of piPop on CD-Rom distributed for free or included with Mac-centric magazines. Contact the author with questions regarding distribution.
piPop is distributed a shareware with a demo period. After the demo has expired, registration is required to eliminate the nag screen. The cost of piPop is set by the user. Suggested value is $20, but please pay what you feel piPop is worth. Registration supports continued support and development of this and other Mac applications. Your serial number is for use by you only and is not to be shared, traded, sold, or given to others for any reason.
